Ingredients

  • 300 gr of dried chickpeas.
  • 1 bunch of chard (usually 1 kg).
  • 2 cloves.
  • 1 bay leaf.
  • 3 garlic cloves.
  • 2 ripe tomatoes, grated
  • 1 dessert spoon of sweet paprika.
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin powder.
  • Olive oil and salt.
  • 4 thin slices of bread (about 40 grams)

Elaboration
The first thing you have to do is soak the chickpeas the night before (they have to be 12 hours).

Clean and chop the chard.

Drain the chickpeas.

And let's get started.

Heat 2 liters of water and when it is hot add the chickpeas and chard.

Cook for an hour or an hour and a half (if it is in a pressure cooker, 15 minutes will suffice) so that the chickpeas are very tender. Add with the cloves and bay leaf.

While the chickpeas are cooking, peel the garlic and cut into thin slices.

In a frying pan with olive oil, sauté the garlic until golden brown.

Remove the garlic and sauté the slices of bread (2 or 3 minutes on each side).

Remove the bread and sauté the tomato over low heat for about 5 minutes with a little salt. Add the paprika and cumin and sauté for a couple more minutes.

While the tomato is sautéing, in a blender or mortar add the garlic, the bread, along with a little water and crush them. Add the mixture to the pan where you are sautéing the tomato and continue cooking for a couple of minutes.

When the chickpeas are cooked add the mash that you have prepared, cook for another 5 minutes and you will have your stew ready to serve.
