INTERVIEW IN THE DIGITAL LA MANCHUELA AL DIA

The Campillano Pedro Cesar Espada fights for the quality of the legumes of La Manchuela

Pedro Cesar Espada, is a campillano advisor who, due to his character, cannot be quiet. So, after a business idea came to his mind after a while, he decided to jump in and create it. Now we can know it by the brands Legumbres Altobuey and Pasión Manchega.

The first will be dedicated to the marketing of legumes from La Mancha, including its flagship product, organic lentils. For its part, the second brand will sell artisan creams from San Clemente.

This resident of Campillo de Altobuey is one of the winners of the second edition of the Shuttle Contest.

La Manchuela al Día: How did you get started in this business project?

Pedro Cesar Espada: I had this idea in my head for a long time and the need I have to collaborate with Campillo de Altobuey and his unemployed, because every day there are fewer young people in the town, and a company of this type can produce between 8 and 10 direct jobs.

In addition, I have some experience in the sector through family contact. But the main reason is that this product is indigenous, but it is not exploited properly. It is a product of the area and with a very good value, but it is not exploited enough.

They are now on the issue of Differentiated Quality, but something must be done for this product.

The possibility of creating a Cooperative between Campillo, Motilla and El Peral was considered, but the farmers were not too convinced.

L.M.D .: Are you going to produce your own lentil? What's your objective?

P.C.E .: For now it is bringing in from other producers, but this year we are going to start producing something, because the idea is to produce a large part.

The medium-term objective is to produce and sell the organic lentil. It is a market on the rise and we must continue this development.

L.M.D .: How did you find out about the Shuttle Contest?

P.C.E .: I met him a year ago, in the first edition, and I was encouraged to participate for the creation of this company. In addition, it is a slightly different project ...

L.M.D .: Are you only going to dedicate yourself to lentil?

P.C.E .: No, going to the market with a single product is very complicated, so we have incorporated more legumes and nuts, as well as an organic range.

We also distribute artisanal creams from San Clemente ... Rather products that go beyond the norm ...

L.M.D .: Do you export abroad or are you going to go to the national market?

P.C.E .: The national market in the ecological section is very weak, and also in quality. The consumer goes to the price, and the price is linked to the quality; so it's something we're looking at, exporting.

L.M.D .: What were the differentiating characteristics that you exhibited in the Contest?

P.C.E .: The quality of the product, because when a legume is harvested, everything is mixed and what we do is buy and pack, without mixing. This is how we preserve quality and tradition.

And we cover the innovation section with the ecological lentil, which was the basis of the presented project.
